Writers’ Access Support Staff Training Program

The Writers’ Access Support Staff Training Program is a first-of-its-kind initiative that provides writers from underrepresented backgrounds with the tools and education to become writers’ assistants and script coordinators, resulting in meaningful employment opportunities.

Veterans Fellowship

Established in 2024, the Veterans Fellowship was designed to provide educational resources, professional guidance, and career-building opportunities for Veterans Writing Project alumni who are on the threshold of breaking in as professional television writers.

Writers’ Access Support Staff Training Program


Graduates of The Writers’ Access Support Staff Training Program receive intensive training equivalent to one year of experience working as support staff in a writers’ room.

With an average admission rate under 1%, the Writers’ Access Support Staff Training Program is the most competitive initiative of its kind. Among thousands of applicants, each participant rose to the top.

Established in 2021, the Writers’ Access Support Staff Training Program has trained over 80 emerging writers interested in pursuing support staff positions. See below for a list of graduates and check out the alumni spotlight series to learn more about their unique journeys to the industry.

Success Stories

WASSTP graduates have been offered support staff and staff writer positions on shows at Netflix, Warner Bros, Hulu, Amazon, NBCUniversal, Paramount+, Showtime, Sony, CBS, Disney+, Apple TV+, BET, The CW, Peacock, and more. Several have ascended to staff writers positions and earned WGA membership.

Veterans Fellowship


Upon graduation, Veterans Fellowship graduates are equipped with multiple polished samples, a refined self-pitch, hands-on experience in simulated writers’ rooms, a nuanced understanding of support roles and writers’ room etiquette, and more.

These writers have incredible life stories and experiences that inform their truly unique voices.
